P.s. Neil LOVES the pom-pom on top. I think that was what he was most excited about! Haha!
Here are some pictures of one of the Baby Shower Gifts I made: (the next shower is this weekend, so that picture to come later).
First is a Car seat Blanket:
it's made with minky fabric so it's extra snugly! and I added a cute little turtle applique in one corner (I cut it with my cricut machine - but it doesn't cut flannel very well...so, it's not the best, but it's cute). I also added two elastic loops - one on each side towards the top. That way you can hook the blanket to the car seat and while you're carrying the car seat around you don't have to worry about the blanket falling on the ground! (That's the WORST!) You could also hook the loops to your stroller too...no more wheel marks on your blankets. Hooray! ;)
Next is a Car seat Cover:
I made one of these from this tutorial on Make It and Love It for Hunter this last winter and it really was a life saver! Best part...you don't have to keep taking it off and putting it on. We left it on for 3 months straight and it was great! :) The picture for the yellow side turned out a little neon, it's really a soft yellow. I made it reversible so you could have either side on the outside...and just used scraps of the fleece for the ties. I made them double long, folded them in half and did a zigzag stitch down the center. That way they can still stretch without the seams breaking. All in all I think/hope they will be useful! :) (Want me to make you one? Just let me know! :))
Current project: I'm working on some curtains for Hunter's room. His window faces west and it gets SO hot in there as the sun goes down...making it IMPOSSIBLE for him to fall asleep. We bought the cheep curtain rods that aren't so attractive, so I thought and thought of a way to make them so they don't get so bunchy at the top that I can't open them all the way, but also that the ugly rods don't show. The other week we went to Ikea and I found my solution:
Instead of putting the loops ABOVE the curtain, just attach them onto the back! Fabulous idea! Mine aren't quite as nice as this...I couldn't remember exactly what they looked like, But I am also doing two different fabrics together (front and back) so I'm making them a little different too.
So... I didn't really care about putting in dark blue thread in the bobbin, so if you can see the white on the tops of the curtain...that's just the backside. Once I attach the fronts of the curtains you won't be able to see it anymore. I'm so lazy when it comes to my own projects! ;) I think they hang really nice though!
Since Hunter is sick we REALLY wanted to make sure he could get a good nights, and days, sleep to help him get better. So, although they are not finished yet, I hung up the backsides so far... still a bit to do. But I think they will work pretty well. I'm excited to have my made my first set of curtains. Though really, I think it's cheaper probably to just buy some. Oh well. It's fun...and I'm getting just what I want. :)
Another project I need to finish before our vacation at the end of July:
Hunter's quiet book! I want him to have something new that will help keep him busy on the long flights. I think he'll really like this... Hopefully! :) I've finished a couple of pages... but now that I'm getting a new machine, I want to wait until it comes. (Really - I'm positive it will be better with a new machine! I hope you all don't think I'm just all talk about being able to sew, and just blaming my mistakes on my machine! ;) It really does have bad tension, and if my fabric is too light it eats it and swallows it whole down into the bobbin area. So yes...once it comes...I will do a comparison! I can't wait! :) ) So yes, I'm excited for this quiet book!
I also bought this super cute owl pdf (make sure to look at it) from Little Polka Dot. I am so in love with it! I am going to put it on the cover of the quiet book...but again, something this cute is going to have to wait for a good machine. ;)
I guess that's all for now... Sorry so much at once! With so much going on I've kind of been distracted from keeping up on everything online! I guess summer really is vacation time...from all things! :)
